Edgar Allan Poe

The Master o’ Macabre, Mr. Edgar Poe, was born in Boston on January 19, 1809. His parents, David Poe, Jr. and Elizabeth Arnold Poe, were members of the Boston Theatre. After his parents passed away, he was adopted by Mrs. John Allan. John Allan was a prosperous Scottish Merchant and well established in Richmond, Virginia. Miffed by Edgar Allan Poe’s sweetheart (due to her social status), John Allan sent Poe to the University of Virginia at Charlottesville to keep him away from Richmond. John Allan pasted away in 1834 and did not mention Edgar Allan Poe in his will. In 1844, Poe moved to NYC hoping to became a well known literary critic. He then took an interest in his ill cousin Virginia whom he maintained a long correspondence with through the years. In January of 1847, Virginia passed away. He was to soon marry Annie Shelton on October 17, however a friend found Poe unconscious. He died at 5am on Sunday morning October 7 and was buried Oct 9, 1875. R.I.P.
-- NEVERMORE --

“I have sometimes amused myself endeavoring to fancy what would be the fate of any individual gifted, or rather accursed, with an intellect very far superior to that of his race.”

“Southern Literary Messenger” June 1849

Harriet Tubman (born Araminta Ross, c. 1820 – 10 March 1913) was an African-American abolitionist, humanitarian, and Union spy during the U.S. Civil War. After escaping from captivity, she made thirteen missions to rescue over three hundred slaves using the network of antislavery activists and safe houses known as the Underground Railroad. She later helped John Brown recruit men for his raid on Harpers Ferry, and in the post-war era struggled for women's suffrage.
